Trim
Castle was created by Hugh de Lacy near the banks of the
Boyne. His goal was to build the largest Norman castle in
Ireland. The castle guarded the northwest approach to
Dublin and became the keystone of Norman power in its
area of Ireland.

The keep is
the main part of the castle, and was built in a twenty
sided cruciform shape. It had many protections including
a ditch, long curtain walls and a moat. The keep was
three stories tall which had living quarters, the Great
Hall and a small chapel.
